Rannveig og Birna

Soprano Rannveig Káradóttir and pianist Birna Hallgrímsdóttir both graduated with a Masters degree from The Royal College of Music as well as being 6th cousins, descendants of Páll Jónsson from Strandir. In 2011 they toured around Iceland with a program of songs inspired by nature. This May they realized a five year old dream and recorded this program. The album is called Krot – Icelandic songs and the release concert will be on the 4th of September in Salurinn in Kópavogur. The program for this lunch-time concert will include songs from their album about birds and the beach with an addition of three foreign songs about the Swan. Beautiful bird paintings by Edda Heiðrún Backmann will accompany the music on the stage but Edda also made the artwork for the album’s cover. A fun fact is that the song Vetrarþoka or Winter Fog, that was commissioned for Krot was written by Árni Kristjánsson, the director of Selshamurinn, and Helgi Rafn Ingvarsson who wrote the Football Opera, but both of these shows are a part of the festival.
