Sofie Meyer

Composer and Violin Player

Sofie Meyer

Sofie Meyer is a Danish composer and violin player. She started studying violin at the Royal Danish Academy of Music at the age of 17 and is now finishing her master studies of composition under the guidance of Prof. Helena Tulve in Tallinn. As a composer she has received masterclasses from teachers such as Chaya Czernowin, Toshio Hosokawa, Zygmunt Krause and Bent Sørensen and to support her studies she has received scholarships from Augustinus Fonden, Dansk Musiker Forbund and Habitat for music.

Sofie has been traveling all over Europe working with different ensembles both as a composer and as a violin player. Being trained as a classical musician her musical voice has its origin from here, but also free improvisation, jazz and folk music collaborations are close to her heart. She has also worked as a teacher and have been involved with school concerts aiming to convey classical music to young children. For Sofie the work with children has the highest importance and seems to be enriching for both the children as well as for the musician as a direct dialogue of ideas and impressions.
