Francisco Javier Jáuregui
classical guitarist

Born in Oxford (England), and having grown up between the USA and Spain, Spanish guitarist Francisco Javier Jáuregui began to study classical guitar in Los Angeles, California, in what is now the Colburn School of Music. After obtaining a Licentiate Diploma from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music he went on to study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, obtaining the degree of Master of Music in Performance.
Francisco Javier has played many concerts both as a solo performer and with different chamber combinations in Spain, England, USA, France, Portugal, Italy, Iceland, Russia, Scotland, Germany, Austria, Malta, Morocco and Southeast Asia in venues such as the Saint Petersburg Philharmonic Society’s Glinka Hall, St Martin-in-the-Fields, St. James’s Palace, the Wigmore Hall (London), and Auditorio Nacional de Música (Madrid).
A large part of the music that Francisco Javier performs is music that he has arranged or composed himself. He has transcribed a number of works for different chamber combinations with guitar and has made a large number of original arrangements based around folk melodies from different parts of the world. The bulk of his work has been for ensembles of which he is a member but he has also written music for groups like Sonor Ensemble.
His interest in expanding the guitar's repertoire, particularly with respect to chamber music, has led him to premiere many works by composers of different nationalities, written especially for him.
Francisco Javier works regularly with Icelandic mezzo-soprano Gudrún Ólafsdóttir and since 1997 he has performed with violinist Elena Jáuregui as the Roncesvalles Duo. The three of them perform together as the Aglaia Trio.
He taught classical guitar and coordinated the music department at Saint Louis University, Madrid Campus for over a decade, before moving to Iceland, where he teaches guitar at Tónskóli Sigursveins and Tónskólinn í Reykjavík. www.javierjauregui.com
