Ágúst Ólafsson (baritone) studied at the Sibelius Academy. In 2007 he signed on as a soloist at the Icelandic National Opera.  Among the roles he has sung there are the title role in Sweeney Todd, Nick Shadow (Rake’s Progress), Papageno (Die Zauberflöte) and Belcore (L’elisir d’amore) for which he won the Icelandic Theater award – Griman – as the Singer of the year 2010. 

As a concert singer Ágúst has sung solos with conductors like Petri Sakari, Hannu Lintu and Paul McCreesh. In the 2004 Hugo Wolf Akademie´s international lied competition he and his duo partner, the pianist Izumi Kawakatsu, took second prize.  Ágúst and the pianist Gerrit Schuil won the Icelandic Music Award 2011 as Performer of the year for their performance of all three song-cycles by F. Schubert (Schöne Müllerin, Winterreise, Schwanengesang) at the 2010 Reykjavík Arts Festival.  Ágúst also won the Icelandic Music Award as Male singer of the year, classical and modern music, 2013.
