Svanhildur Pálmadóttir, Icelandic-born mezzo-soprano, is celebrated for her remarkable vocal range, power, and expressive artistry. She began her studies in operatic singing at the Music School in Garðabærunder the guidance of Snæbjörg Snæbjarnardóttir. She then pursued her Master’s degree in Opera Singing at the Conservatorio “Jacopo Tomadini” in Udine, Italy, where she graduated with the highest distinction under the tutelage of Mirna Pecile and Marcello Lippi. She has participated in the Opera Studio of Pisa, performing the roles of Adelaide and Peppenella in Rota’s Napoli Milionaria. She also took part in the Masterclass Laboratorio Musicale Abruzzese di Flaminio, where she appeared as Giustina in Pergolesi’s work. In Italy, Ms. Pálmadóttir has been featured in numerous festivals, performing rediscovered masses at Nativitas: Canti e Tradizioni Natalizie in Alpe Adria 2010, the Festival Internazionale di Musica Sacra – Incontro Religiose (recorded on CD), and Il Piccolo Festival, where she sang Isabella in Rossini’s L’Italiana in Algeri. Her operatic repertoire spans a wide range of roles, including the title role in Mascagni’s Zanetto, Dardano in Händel’s Amadigi di Gaula, Suor Zelatrice and La Zia Principessa in Puccini’s Suor Angelica, the title role in Bizet’s Carmen, Kundry in Wagner’s Parsifal and Hela in Cornelius’s Gunlöd, which was broadcast on NDR Kultur Radio.
