GERÐUR GUNNARSDÓTTIR studied violin at Tónskóli Sigursveins D. Kristinssonar, the Cologne College of Music with Igor Ozim and The Sweelinck Conservatorium Amsterdam with Herman Krebbers. She won the first price at the Postbank-Sweelinck Violin Competition in Amsterdam 1990. 1992-2008 she played as third concertmaster in the Gürzenich-Orchestra, Cologne and since 2010 she has been a member of the Konzerthaus-Orchestra Berlin. She has worked with chamber orchestras in Germany and Europe, such as C.O.E./The Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Deutsche Kammerakademie Neuss, Ensemble Modern, Musikfabrik Cologne and Potsdamer Kammerakademie. She has also played with different chamber music ensembles all around Europe. She has been a member of the Caput-Ensemble from its foundation and has made many recordings with them and others ensembles, and also recorded different film music, audio-books and radioplays. As an example for CDs she recorded „ÝLIR“ with the clarinet player Claudio Puntin, ECM records 2001 and „PURE“  in 2022, 1.61records.
