The Floating Diva
Is she a vision, a wandering spirit, or a siren rising from the depths?
A majestic soprano glides across the water in an enormous dress made of umbrellas, singing exquisite arias. Two mysterious water attendants slowly guide her along as her voice carries across the water to the audience.
The Floating Diva is an enchanting musical and visual spectacle conceived by Dutch artist Victorine Pasman, who also designed the costume. Drawing inspiration from 17th-century dress, Dutch landscapes, and tales of mermaids and shipwrecked women, the work inhabits a space somewhere between opera, visual art, and dreams.
.As dusk falls, the costume lights up, transforming the diva into a shimmering, floating being of light.
The diva will float at several locations around the city during Reykjavík Opera Days.
